Makeup products were on my mind this morning even though I have no plans to go out. I’ve been trying to think about my next ‘makeup’ post to write and I was coming up with nothing. Part of the problem is that I’m a total amateur on the subject. Who wants to listen to someone who’s just learning about it right?
Interestingly, epiphanies on a random issue can occur at the strangest times. I was in the midst of my yoga routine.. Just flowing and feeling good and it suddenly hit me! So, here I am, sharing my revelation!
We all see the models and the ‘beautiful people’ on television, in the movies, on every magazine cover ….. but most of us don’t look like that. I think some of us just give up because we know we’ll never look like those ‘rare anomalies’ with symmetrical features and perfect noses. Some of us give up so entirely that we aren’t even bothering to moisturize!
And here’s the revelation! Even if you’ll never be that beautiful, rare orchid, you can still be a fabulous looking clematis. Or the most brilliant daisy in this garden of life! (was that too much do you think? A little over the top? Whatever, I’m sure you get my point).
A couple weeks ago I realized that it was time to put a coat of ‘paint’ on the old barn. At least occasionally. Time to buy some new makeup products. Time to start paying some real attention to how I look. Gotta say, having to stare at my ‘hungry, desperate raccoon eyes‘, staring back at me from the mirror went a long way towards helping me decide!
Since then, I’ve put together a basic makeup kit. Now I make a point of ‘putting on my face’ before I go out. The result? I feel a lot better about me when I do! I have more confidence, feel more poised, less embarrassed and most importantly I don’t feel as old. Did you read that?
I’ll repeat it again. The single most important reason to have at least a basic collection of appropriate makeup products that you know how to use, is so that you won’t feel so old!
I’m convinced that every feeling you have, determines how you behave and in turn, how you’re treated. If we walk around feeling that nothing makes a difference any more, that we’ll still look old, we begin to act old. We walk less straight, we walk slower, our shoulders curl in and we slump. We engage with others less, we have less confidence when we do…. Then how our bodies feel is affected, which makes us feel older so we walk less straight…..do you see the pattern? It’s like we gradually curl in on ourselves until we’re a little stooped and dried up leaf instead of the vibrant flowers we should be.
You deserve to feel fabulous in these so-called Golden Years. And it starts with looking like you’re at the top of your game whatever your life stage.
Margaret Manning, creator of the fabulous blog ‘Sixty and Me’, along with her friend, celebrity makeup artist Ariane Poole, did a wonderful 15 minute video to teach you and I how to buy makeup products. The questions we should ask, what we should be looking for and a little discussion on how we’ll be using this stuff! Learning from the experts is always the best way to start on any new venture so I hope that you’ll take a minute to click through here.
Does any of this make sense to you? I sure hope so because I’d love to know that not only does it make sense, but that you actually tried it AND you feel fabulous! So, if you’re inspired and you’re glad you jumped in with both feet and went shopping for some new makeup products, then share with us! I love hearing great stories and we’d all love to be inspired by you!
As always, I remind you that while I’ve spent the last 20 years focusing on and learning to ‘grow’ my own health, I’m not a medical doctor. What I’m sharing her is based on my own experiences and the things that I’ve learned from the real experts who see the actual patients in their practises and resarch and who write the medical reports. My goal is to motivate and help you find your best way to live a healthier and more peaceful life. I and Ageless at Sixty cannot be held liable for any resulting injury or adverse change in health status.
